ASABA/Nigeria: More beneficiaries of the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) of the 2019/2020 Programme Cycle have continued to commend Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for fulfilling his promise to continue with the STEP/YAGEP programme.
The beneficiaries made the commendation when they visited the Office of the Chief Job Creation Officer, Asaba to collect their posting letters and logbook.
In an interview with Solomon Ekezuwa (Ndokwa West) in Fashion Design and Textile Design, Solomon while thanking the state government for the programme said he hoped to realise his dream of being independent through the programme.
He appealed to the state government to continue with the programme so that more Delta youths can benefit, pointing out that the programme is economically wise at this time when there are no jobs.
For Gibson Enunuaye (Warri South West LGA) in Welding and Fabrication, he had long hoped for an opportunity to be part of the job creation programme since inception of the Okowa-led administration.
He said the successes recorded are commendable as some of his friends have benefited from the programme and are doing well. He pledged to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the programme.
Also speaking, a trainee in Information Technology Service, Stella Tuduo (Burutu) opined that it is a good thing that youths are being skilled in Delta state through the job creation programme. She attested that a cousin of hers had benefitted from the programme and had made remarkable progress in Fashion Design and Tailoring.
She said she looked forward to becoming an expert in her choice skill, Information Technology Service and to develop her entrepreneurial abilities in order to become self-reliant and an employer of labour.
She thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the entrepreneurship development initiative which according to her has made many university graduates without kills relevant in society.
In the same vein, Ifeanyi Kemele (Ika South) in Decoration & Event Management and Ekene Uchibuolu (Oshimili North) in Hairdressing, Makeover & Braiding expressed satisfaction with their enrolment in the STEP programme, adding that at last they now have the opportunity to become their own bosses and to become entrepreneurs.
They described the initiative as a legitimate way out of poverty considering the economic situation in Nigeria where white collar jobs have become so difficult to come by, stressing that they are glad to be part of the programme.
