AWKA/Nigeria: The lifeless body of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North, has been discovered near the Second Niger Bridge weeks after he was abducted while traveling home for the Christmas holiday.
His abduction had sparked widespread calls for his release from individuals, the state government, and fellow lawmakers, but all efforts proved futile.
Confirming the tragic development in a press statement, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said security operatives made the discovery during a rescue operation on Thursday morning.
“In the early hours of today (Thursday), February 6, 2025, a Joint Security Team comprising Police and AVG Operatives, on a mission to rescue the abducted Hon. Azuka, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene,” Ikenga stated.
He noted that while details surrounding the lawmaker’s death remain sketchy, investigations have commenced to track down those responsible. Security forces have also taken control of the area as efforts intensify to apprehend the perpetrators.
