ABRAKA/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical police teams to Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area following a worrying spike in violent crimes, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
The move, announced on Thursday, June 6, 2025, comes amid growing alarm from residents and a wave of online reports highlighting the deteriorating security situation in the university town. The Police Command said it is responding to the security concerns with “decisive and proactive measures” to ensure the protection of lives and property in the area.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, CP Abaniwonda directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Aina Adesola, to oversee the deployment and coordination of the response units.
Tactical operatives have already been mobilized from several elite formations, including the Dragon Patrol, Safer Highway Patrol, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU). Their operations will include round-the-clock patrols, intelligence-led policing, and the mounting of strategic checkpoints aimed at flushing out criminal elements.
“No stone will be left unturned in our efforts to restore peace and protect the lives and property of residents,” CP Abaniwonda assured. “This is a direct response to the outcry of the people. We will continue to pursue those behind these heinous crimes and ensure they are brought to justice.”
He also urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information that could incite fear or panic. Instead, he encouraged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security personnel, and report suspicious activities through official communication lines.
