LAGOS/Nigeria: Kings College Obalende, located in Lagos, emerged victorious in a spirited competition aimed at promoting biblical knowledge among visually impaired students.
The Bible Society of Nigeria hosted the event, which witnessed fierce participation from eight schools across Lagos state.
The Bible quiz 2023 edition took place at the Apostolic Church in Palmgrove on a Friday, showcasing the determination and intellect of visually impaired students from various institutions. The competing schools included Kings College Obalende, Bethesda School for the Blind, Federal Government College Ijanikin (Senior and Junior Schools), Pacelli School for the Blind, Lagos State Senior Midel School in Agbowa, Lagos State Junior Model School in Agbowa, and the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind.
Kings College Obalende secured the top position by amassing a total of 55 points, demonstrating their extensive knowledge of the Bible. In a closely contested battle for the second and third positions, Pacelli School for the Blind and Federal Government College Ijanikin (Junior) garnered 45 and 35 points, respectively, earning them the respective positions.
During the event, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, the General Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Bible Society of Nigeria, expressed his gratitude to the Apostolic Church in Palmgrove for generously hosting the competition. Pastor Sanusi also called upon both the government and the private sector to contribute to ensuring that visually impaired individuals can access quality education and enjoy a fulfilling life.
Highlighting the organization’s vision, Pastor Sanusi revealed that the Bible Society of Nigeria aspires to see visually impaired students awarded scholarships that will support their education up to the university level.
In recognition of their impressive performance, the winners received cash prizes and other valuable items, reaffirming the importance of supporting and celebrating the achievements of visually impaired students in their pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
