LAGOS/Nigeria: The General Manager of the Lagos State Command and Control Centre, Mr. Femi Giwa, has disclosed that the agency is stepping up efforts to deepen public awareness of its emergency response operations and platforms across the state.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Giwa noted that a significant number of residents were still unaware of the centre’s existence and the critical services it provides.

He explained that the agency was increasingly leveraging credible media platforms, including NAN, to promote its operations and ensure wider public engagement.

“We recognise NAN as the number one national news service. This platform helps us propagate what we do,” Giwa said.

He further revealed that the scope of the centre’s operations had been significantly expanded under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu through infrastructural upgrades and the deployment of advanced technological solutions.

According to him, the Lagos State Government has introduced the Lagos Emergency Responders Management System to enhance coordination among first responders and improve response efficiency during emergencies.

Giwa also reminded residents that emergencies could be reported through the toll-free numbers 767 and 112, as well as through the Eko-Help Initiative mobile application.

He explained that the mobile app allows users to report incidents in real time with video evidence, thereby enabling quicker and more accurate emergency response.

In addition, he disclosed that a Dispatch Management System would soon be introduced to enable responders navigate directly to incident locations using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.

He added that an Ambulance Management System was also in the pipeline to help identify hospitals with available bed spaces before transporting victims.

“This reduces the thin line between life and death in trauma cases,” Giwa said.

He further announced plans to deploy a Public Safety Notification Alert System that would enable authorities send real-time safety prompts to residents during disasters or emergencies.

Giwa emphasised that the overarching goal of these initiatives is to safeguard lives and property through improved and technologically-driven emergency management across Lagos State.
