LAGOS/Nigeria: It was a night of honour, reflection, and renewed purpose as the Lagos State Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS2.1 Command, held a historic “End of Tenure and Awards Ceremony” to celebrate past leaders, veteran marshals, and key stakeholders who have shaped road safety operations in the state.
Organized by the newly elected state executive, the landmark event brought together former state coordinators, unit heads, marshals aged 70 and above, and corporate allies to pay tribute to those whose selfless contributions have strengthened the legacy of the Special Marshals in Lagos.
Top among the honorees were recipients of the Evergreen Awards — individuals and organizations recognized for their outstanding support and lasting impact during the last administration. The awards served as both a mark of gratitude and a reaffirmation of the Special Marshals’ ethos of dedication and public service.
Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, representing the Corps CC SDER, praised the depth and execution of the event, urging FRSC Headquarters in Abuja to adopt similar recognition initiatives. “The planning and emotional connection displayed here are exceptional,” she said.
Also present was the Sector Commander of RS2.1 Lagos, Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, who lauded the marshals’ integrity and exemplary conduct. “Today’s event shows that the Special Marshals are not just people of integrity but of remarkable calibre,” he stated.
In his opening remarks, the newly elected State Coordinator, SM (Dr.) Olabisi O. Dennis, said the initiative to honour contributors was originally conceived by the immediate past administration, describing it as a continuation of a culture rooted in respect, loyalty, and service.
He praised his predecessor and now Zonal Coordinator, SM Olusegun Akintan, for his visionary leadership and foundational work that birthed the awards. “This event is more than recognition — it is a reaffirmation that in the Special Marshals, loyalty and service are honoured and rewarded,” Dr. Dennis declared.
Distinguished guests included Chief Barnabas O. Olise, Managing Director of Cakasa Nigeria Company Limited; Aare Bisi Lawal, former National Coordinator of Special Marshals; Prince Adenekan, former National Treasurer (represented by journalist Mr. Nurudeen Adegbenro Adenekan); Elder Adeniyi, immediate past Zonal Coordinator for RS2 (Lagos & Ogun); DCC Lukas Oguntade, Sector Head of Operations; and DCC Obi, Sector Admin.
The Zonal Commanding Officer of RS2 was represented by CRC Ayoola.
For many attendees, especially senior marshals and past unit leaders — the event marked the first time their efforts were formally and publicly recognized in Lagos State, making the occasion both emotional and historic.
The evening concluded with a powerful call to action: to let the legacy of honour, integrity, and appreciation inspire a deeper commitment to service, community safety, and operational excellence in the years ahead.
