LAGOS/Nigeria: In an exclusive interview at the Eloy Awards and Conference in Lagos, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Bimbo Salu-Hudeyin, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering an environment where women can compete on equal footing with men.
Salu-Hudeyin highlighted the administration’s commitment to gender parity through its recent appointments, emphasizing the administration’s deliberate efforts to achieve a more balanced representation.
“The state government is actively implementing initiatives, including skills acquisition programs and empowerment schemes, to amplify the voices of women across Lagos,” she stated, underscoring the government’s push to ensure women’s active participation in decision-making processes.
Expressing admiration for the resilience of Nigerian women, Salu-Hudeyin commended the efforts showcased at the awards, noting the remarkable determination of women to realize their full potential.
“The accomplishments displayed here are commendable. The organizer herself deserves recognition for her outstanding efforts,” Salu-Hudeyin remarked, acknowledging the exceptional work of the awards’ convenor.
Highlighting specific actions taken by the state to affirm gender equality, the SSG pointed out, “Lagos State is already implementing numerous initiatives. Currently, our civil service boasts a 50-50 ratio of women to men among permanent secretaries, a significant step towards our commitment to gender inclusivity.”
She emphasized Lagos’s distinctive approach, asserting, “We firmly believe in fostering gender equality and inclusiveness.”
The Eloy Awards and Conference, initiated by Tewa Onasanya in 2009, celebrates and honors women excelling across diverse fields. The event witnessed the recognition of outstanding young women from various walks of life, showcasing their remarkable contributions.
