Lagos State Government Debunks Rumors of Monthly Environmental Sanitation Return

LAGOS/Nigeria: The Lagos State Government has firmly denied the rumors about the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which was speculated to resume at the end of July.

Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, refuted the circulating misinformation in an official statement, attributing the viral news on social media to mischief makers intent on confusing the public. He stressed that there will be no restriction of movement on the last Saturday of July as falsely claimed.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has instead introduced a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise. This initiative, announced during a sanitation sensitization event at Campos Playground on Lagos Island, involves government officials leading voluntary cleaning activities and encouraging residents to maintain a clean environment.

Wahab urged residents to disregard the false information and continue their daily activities without fear of movement restrictions related to environmental sanitation. He emphasized the importance of adopting a culture of regular cleanliness rather than relying on a designated monthly exercise.
