ABUJA/Nigeria: In a fervent appeal during a recent plenary session, the Member of the House of Representatives representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, has sounded the alarm over the deplorable condition of the vital Olomi Olojuoro, Ijebu-Igbo Ita Egba-Owonowen road. The deteriorating state of the road, which serves as a crucial link between Oyo State and Ogun State, has become a matter of grave concern, posing significant risks to the lives and safety of road users.
Hon. Akande-Sadipe passionately recounted the distressing situation, drawing attention to the multiple accidents and fatalities that have resulted from the road’s deteriorating condition. She highlighted the numerous petitions and complaints from her constituents, expressing their hardship and the adverse impact on the local economy due to the virtually impassable road.
“The gravity of the situation cannot be ignored. The Olomi Olojuoro, Ijebu-Igbo Ita Egba-Owonowen road’s poor state has inflicted severe socio-economic consequences on the constituents and surrounding communities, causing transportation difficulties and impeding access to essential services. The Olomi Olojuoro road has become a death trap, claiming lives daily, and this demands urgent intervention,” asserted Hon. Akande-Sadipe.
Despite budgetary allocations and funds disbursed to the contractor, DC Engineering Limited, the Olomi-Olojuoro road remains in a state of disrepair, leading to widespread disappointment and disillusionment among the community members. The lawmaker criticized the contractors for consistently failing to fulfill their obligations, resulting in the road’s current dire state.
In light of these alarming revelations, Hon. Akande-Sadipe called for decisive government action. She urged the House to mandate the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to terminate the contract awarded to DC Engineering Limited immediately. Additionally, she proposed the establishment of an Ad-Hoc committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the contractors’ repeated failures.
The proposed Ad-Hoc committee would be tasked with scrutinizing the construction and rehabilitation of the Olomi Olojuoro road and reviewing the yearly budget allocations for the project. To ensure transparency and accountability, Hon. Akande-Sadipe emphasized that the committee should provide regular updates to the House on the progress of the road construction project.
The severity of the situation prompted Hon. Olumide Osoba of Ogun State to kindly stand in for Hon. Akande-Sadipe and present the motion on the floor of the National Assembly during a meeting at the Villa with all female legislators and the First Lady.
The urgency of the matter cannot be understated, as the state of the Olomi Olojuoro, Ijebu-Igbo Ita Egba-Owonowen road continues to pose a threat to lives and disrupt economic activities. The call for immediate action from the government is now at the forefront of the nation’s attention, urging swift intervention to address the pressing concerns of the affected communities.
