EFFURUN/Nigeria: An Effurun-based legal icon, Napoleon Egin has called for the upgrading of the College of Education, Warri to a university of education.

This was contained in his address shortly before the commissioning of a 5,000 litre water tank he donated to the college on Friday 13th May, 2022.

The Ijaw-born legal luminary noted that College of Education, Warri was one of the oldest colleges of education in the state and tertiary institutions outside School of Nursing in Warri metropolis.

He reasoned that if upgraded to a university of education, it would meet the needs of thousands of students who were desirous of university education in the area.

“They need not go elsewhere to look for a university education,” he added.

Egin also called for the rehabilitation and construction of structures and facilities in the college as he noted that most of them were dilapidated.

He had earlier explained that the gesture was aimed at giving back to the society

“I believe that one way of doing this is to improve on the educational sector. Education is the key to any meaningful development.

“I also believe that the gesture will enhance the morale of the teaching staff and students of the college because you cannot teach and learn in an environment where you don’t have water for domestic needs.

“This was why I embarked on the project.  If not, I don’t have any relationship with the college, more than the relationship other Deltans have with it, “he added.

The Provost of College of Education, Warri, Dr Dickson Oyovwi, remarked that the donation of the water project was timely and that it was a welcome development.

He disclosed that the college had a plan of executing a water project before the gesture and that the monies meant for planned water would be used for other projects.

Oyovwi appreciated Napoleon Egin for the project, just as he appealed to other Deltans to emulate the gesture.

On his part, the Executive Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi also lauded Napoleon Egin for the gesture.

Tidi, who was represented by Moses Amuda, also commended Egin for the gesture, and advised authorities of the college to make good use of the water project and also maintain it regularly.

The Representative of Congregation of The Governing Council of College of Education, Warri, Dr Samuel Eshenake, who spoke to our correspondent in a chat after the event, appreciated the donor of the project and expressed gratitude to God for the huge success of the event.

Highpoints of the event were the commissioning of the water project by the Provost of College of Education, Warri, Dr Dickson Oyovwi, and unveiling of the plaque of the project by Moses Amuda on behalf of the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Dr Michael Tidi.

All the key personalities at the epoch-making event took time off to have a taste of the water from the taps connected to the gigantic water tank.

The water tank is twice bigger than the existing one in the college and it was executed at the sum of N2 million to meet the immediate need of the School of Arts and Social Sciences and Vocational Studies, and the entire college.
