OZORO/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education has applauded the management and Governing Councils of the state’s four universities for their efforts in enhancing standards within the institutions.
During an oversight visit to Delta State University, Abraka, and the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Committee Chairman, Hon Charles Emetulu conveyed commendations for the progress made.
Emetulu emphasized the significance of the visit, stating, “As members of the committee on Education, it is our constitutional duty to oversight Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs under our supervision.” He further added, “The visit is for us to have first-hand information on the state of the Universities, including their academic programs as well as ascertain projects executed through government interventions, Internally generated revenue and those of TETFUND.”
Highlighting the pivotal role of education in societal development, Emetulu urged continuous engagement between university management and stakeholders to ensure excellence in the education sector.
Commending the universities for their recent successes, particularly the Delta State University’s 16th Convocation ceremony, Emetulu praised the efficient utilization of funds and the maintenance of a seamless academic calendar.
Accompanied by fellow committee members, Emetulu inspected various projects at Delta State University, Abraka, including the nearly completed Senate building and other infrastructure.
At the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Emetulu recognized the visionary leadership of past and present administrations for their commitment to establishing and supporting educational institutions.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress made by the university, the committee urged management to address challenges in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education for effective budget planning.
Representatives from the universities, including Commissioners and Vice Chancellors, commended the legislative efforts aimed at improving academic performance and infrastructure, pledging continued collaboration in advancing education within the state.
