BOJI-BOJI OWA/Nigeria: The Chairman of Ika North East Local Government Council, Hon. Victor Ebonka, has issued a stern warning to both Private Sector Participants (PSP) and residents, cautioning them against undermining the council’s dedicated efforts to maintain a clean environment within the locality.
Chairman Ebonka conveyed this message during a comprehensive inspection of the evacuation operations at a dump site located in Boji-Boji Owa.
In his address, Chairman Ebonka emphasized his commitment to upholding policies geared towards preserving a pristine environment. He stressed, “In keeping with the implementation of my policies of keeping the environment clean, we must do everything we can to have a healthy and clean society.”
He urged residents to actively seek the services of PSPs for efficient waste management, while also issuing a plea, “I want to urge residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in unauthorized locations and drainages.”
Furthermore, Chairman Ebonka extended advice to PSP operators, cautioning them against complacency and unethical practices. He emphasized the repercussions, stating, “Failure to demonstrate capacity among the operators in any zone would attract outright withdrawal of the license of operation of the PSP.”
He underscored the financial burden on the council, remarking, “It is costing us much in the clean up of refuse dumps in different locations across the locality. We can’t continue this way,” further emphasizing the urgent need for cooperation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
