LAGOS/Nigeria: In a remarkable feat within a year of its launch in Nigeria, M.P. Master Piece Limited’s brand, Kubanah Whisky, has made significant inroads into both domestic and international markets. The product has managed to secure shelf space in major Nigerian markets and supermarkets, surpassing initial expectations.
Produced domestically yet adhering to global standards, Kubanah Whisky has captured the attention of Nigerian consumers, resulting in an escalating demand for the product. The Managing Director and CEO of M. P. Masterpiece, Mr. Emeka Ike, recently elaborated on the driving force behind the inception of Kubanah Whisky during a media interaction.
Mr. Ike emphasized the need for a locally crafted whisky that is not only accessible but also meets international quality benchmarks. “Kubanah Whisky is introduced to fill that need for a locally produced Whisky that is affordable and of international standard,” he stated. Moreover, Mr. Ike addressed the issue of unemployment among Nigerian youth, underscoring the importance of fostering local production to generate employment opportunities and subsequently reduce crime and corruption.
Highlighting the success of the brand, Mr. Ike expressed satisfaction with Kubanah Whisky’s performance in comparison to imported counterparts in the Nigerian wine and spirit market. The brand’s popularity is underscored by its endorsement of well-known personalities, including Destiny Etiko, Femi Adebayo, Nosa Rex, and Emmanuel Abisi.
The conversation also touched on the broader business landscape, with Mr. Ike calling for more favorable policies and an improved ease of doing business in Nigeria. He criticized the current cost of production and urged the government to create an environment conducive to sustaining local industries.
Mr. Ike concluded by emphasizing the significance of supporting local resources and industries for national development. Drawing parallels with global economies, he stressed that governmental backing is pivotal in driving economic growth and industrial development. Addressing challenges like reliable power supply, security, and a well-functioning transport system, he highlighted their importance in ensuring the smooth operation of businesses from production to market distribution. The success of Kubanah Whisky, according to Mr. Ike, is just one example of how local industries, with the right support, can contribute significantly to a nation’s growth and prosperity.
