UGHELLI/Nigeria: The Clerk to the Ughelli North Local Government legislative arm, Hon Chief Austin Oghenesivwohwo has described love and obedience to one another as the basic principles that could make the union of husband and wife a lasting and a thriving institution.
Chief Oghenesivwohwo made this remarks recently during the traditional marriage ceremony between Mr Rume Peter and Miss Harriet Adah, held at the family compound of the bride at Apala Street, Warri.
Oghenesivwohwo who was the Chairman of the reception ceremony said the Bible was clear on the issue of marriage as it instructed the husband to love his wife while the wife in return should be obedient to her own husband, saying that anyone who did contrary to these instructions would have his or her marriage destroyed.
He however emphasized that being obedient does not mean the wife should act foolishly by not considering the rationale behind the instructions and actions of the spouse.
Oghenesivwohwo who was present with his wife stated further that couples should always stay together, listen to one another and plan together, just as he advised Mr and Mrs Peter to shun the attitude of taking family matter to their parents.
He further advised the couples that whenever issue arose, they should not rely on gossip but to filter every information they got and use wisdom to settle it accordingly with respect for one another instead of taking it outside the home.
He observed that some persons may not be happy to see that your marriage is thriving and would do anything to destroy it, saying if you unknowingly take your marriage problem to such a person, he or she would happily destroy it by giving ungodly counsel to you.
He prayed for the couples for a successful married life, just as the groom, Mr Rume Peter expressed joy for the success of the marriage ceremony and thank those who could a make out time to attend the ceremony.
