LP, APC Condemn Oborevwori’s Leadership and Development Claims

ASABA/Nigeria: The ongoing debate over the effectiveness of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has taken a heated turn as the Delta State Labour Party, LP and the All Progressive Congress (APC) has issued scathing statements challenging the governor’s achievements, as praised by his aides.

The controversy began with a viral online report credited to Ossai Ovie Success, a Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, which painted an optimistic picture of the state’s progress under Governor Oborevwori.

In the report, the Aide lauded the governor’s leadership, claiming that Delta State had flourished under his tenure, with significant investments in road construction, economic growth, and overall development.

However, the Delta State Labour Party of Ika Federal Constituency, has debunked the claim, accusing him of spreading “falsehood and deceptive reports” to mislead the public.

In a strongly worded statement, the party condemned the claims made by the governor’s aide, labelling them as “insults on Deltans and lies.”

The Labour Party refuted the notion that the state had seen any tangible progress under Governor Oborevwori’s administration, arguing that his much-touted MOORE Agenda campaign promises remained unfulfilled.

“Recent happenings in the state have truly shown that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is struggling to gain balance, let alone fulfilling campaign promises,” the statement read.

The party also criticized the governor’s alleged lack of commitment to economic development, highlighting the state’s continued reliance on federal allocations. They pointed out the dire state of the Delta economy, which they claimed had not improved despite the governor’s assurances.

In a similar vein, the Delta State chapter of the APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo, issued a statement condemning the Oborevwori administration’s performance.

The APC accused the governor of leading the state into “unprecedented depths of misgovernance and hardship,” arguing that Delta State had become one of the worst-performing states in Nigeria under his leadership.

Onojeghuo dismissed the government’s claims of reducing the state’s debt profile as “the most shameful lie ever paddled by any stretch of imagination.”

He alleged that the state’s massive debt was a result of dubious loans accumulated during the previous administration, with no significant development projects to show for it.

The APC also criticized the lack of visible infrastructure projects across the state, noting that apart from the Effurun and Enerhen flyover projects, there was little evidence of progress. They accused the governor of engaging in “propaganda economics” to create a false narrative of success while the state’s infrastructure and security continued to deteriorate.

In their different statements, both parties are calling on the governor to take responsibility for the state’s challenges and act to address the pressing issues faced by Deltans.
