ASABA/Nigeria: The acting Chairman of the Delta State Civil Service Commission, Lady Roseline Eno Amioku (JP), has been selected as the Mother of the Day for the Year 2024 edition of the Maris Annual Public Service Lecture. The statement was disclosed by the Secretary of the Maris Trust Council, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, organizers of the well-attended annual event.
Lady Amioku has accepted the invitation to attend the lecture as Mother of the Day, joining the league of distinguished women who have graced previous editions, including Lady Esther Elue, Dr. Cecilia Ibru, Dr. (Mrs) Comfort Omon-Irabor, and Chief (Barr.) Josephine Ada Kachikwu.
The Guest Speaker for this year’s lecture will be Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor. She will speak on the topic, “Flight Of Talents: Navigating Nigeria’s Brain Drain Predicament.”
According to Egugbo, the idea for this year’s lecture emerged from discussions about the implications of mass emigration on Nigeria’s future. Participants emphasized the need for a female speaker, leading to the selection of Prof. Chiemeke, who is the first female to deliver the Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.
The lecture, scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, Delta State, will also feature four discussants, including the Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Chief Dr. Barry Gbe, and former member of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Commission, Chief Philomena Ededey Ugheminaye. Hon. Pastor Jonathan Ukodhiko, a successful businessman and politician, will serve as the Chairman of the occasion.
“We thank Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for making Delta conducive for such a lecture to take place,” Egugbo added. “Delta is safe and a tourist’s delight, and for those coming from outside the state, the Asaba International Airport offers convenient access. Asaba, the ancient city by the famous River Niger, boasts hotels of international standards and welcoming people, along with tourist sites like the Mungo Park Building, The Lander Brothers’ Anchorage, and the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park and Film Village.”
