ABRAKA/Nigeria: The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has lauded the effort of the management team of Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara, DELSUTH led by their Chief Medical Director, Professor Onome Ogueh for being almost flawless in the management of the teaching hospital.
The commendation was made recently when the accreditation team of the MDCN visited DELSUTH, and the Medical School at Delta State University, Abraka.
The MDCN team, led by its registrar, Dr T.A.B Sanusi, said that he observed tremendous facelift in the physical structures and environment both at the teaching hospital and medical school environment, stating that what they saw in DELSUTH was significantly different from what they met when they visited in 2017.
To achieve effective clinical medical studies, the registrar, however, advised that an animal house with varieties of animals, needed to be built in DELSUTH and that the public health museum and laboratory in Warri Central Hospital, Warri should be relocated to DELSUTH.
Dr. Sanusi reasoned that for clinical medicine, DELSUTH and the university were near flawless, acknowledging that a lot had been done there.
He noted that based on what he identified, there were certain things both the university and the teaching hospital should work together to develop, to meet the increment in the numbers of medical students that the university was seeking.
The council registrar disclosed that their mission was to inspect for accreditation the level of the staffing, facility and equipment that would enable clinical training of medical students in DELSUTH.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of DELSUTH, Oghara, Professor Onome Ogueh, in his welcome address, told the registrar that the teaching hospital clinical building had been in the process of renovation by the Sen Ifeanyi Okowa-led government, for the past two and half years.
He noted that the process of moving back for full clinical activities was ongoing and that the team would see new facilities and structure that had been modified to ensure there was a better hospital.
Ogueh revealed that part of the new things the hospital had had, was the supply of new equipment by the state government, adding that the stage was set for piped oxygen to be supplied to patients.
