EFFURUN/Nigeria: A Calabar, Cross River State based medical outreach, Beguwell has provided free medicated eye glasses and checks to residents of Uvwie Local Government Area.

The free medical aids were provided by Beguwell Medical Outreach at Uvwie Local Government Council Secretariat, Effurun, recently.

The Uvwie born Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Beguwell, Akpobasa Irikefe spoke to our correspondent in an exclusive media chat.

He explained that the gesture was aimed at providing free medical aids to residents, particularly the downtrodden and that the outreach had been doing so in Calabar, Cross River State.

Irikefe explained further that he decided to bring the free medical aids to Uvwie Local Government Area because he was an indigene of the area.

He stated that the free medical aids included provision of free medicated eye glasses, free medical checks on high blood pressure and chest.

Irikefe stated that severe cases were referred to specialist hospitals and clinics where he said bills were subsidized.

He, however, expressed displeasure that the turnout for the free medical aid by residents was not encouraging, and blamed it on lack of awareness.

He also appealed to agencies, institutions, organizations and public-spirited individuals to partner with the medical outreach to enable it to reach out to the nooks and crannies of the local government area.

Irikefe was, however, full of praise for the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Ramson Onoyake for providing the venue for the outreach.
