Meet ‘Bros’: The Niger Delta Sports Festival Mascot Unveiled

LAGOS/Nigeria: The much-anticipated mascot for the Niger Delta Sports Festival, named Bros, was officially unveiled on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre, with Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodinma, as the Special Guest of Honour.

Inspired by the Dolphin, Bros symbolizes the strength, intelligence, and unity of the Niger Delta people. The name, a popular slang for “Brother” in the region, represents the camaraderie and shared identity of Niger Deltans, reinforcing the belief that “we are all Bros.”

Dolphins, known for their speed, agility, and extraordinary sensory abilities, mirror the resilience and brilliance of the Niger Delta people. Just as Dolphins navigate waters with precision—even when blind—Niger Deltans are known for their ingenuity and resourcefulness. “Niger Deltans get brain, and we no dey carry last,” the unveiling emphasized.

Beyond their athleticism, Dolphins are deeply social and compassionate creatures, much like the Niger Delta people. They protect one another, nurture their young, and even shield swimmers from danger—an embodiment of the region’s spirit of solidarity and care.

With multiple ethnic groups and languages, Niger Deltans remain united in diversity—just like Dolphins, which communicate in different ways but thrive as one. As the festival kicks off, Bros stands as a proud symbol of sportsmanship, brotherhood, and the unbreakable bond of the Niger Delta.
