Monarchs Should Discharge His Responsibilities Transparently

ASABA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has appealed to the Obi of Obomkpa kingdom, HRM Onyeamaechi Kanyinaga 1, to discharge his responsibilities in a transparent manner by being fair and just to his subjects at all time.

The governor who was represented by his Deputy Barr Kingsley Burutu Otuaro made the appeal shortly before presenting a staff of office to the Obi in his Palace at Obomkpa, in Aniocha North Local Government Area.

Governor Okowa said, “As the custodian of the tradition and custom of your people, it is necessary that you do not in words or action give cause for your subjects to doubt your ability to uphold the sanctity of your customs. You are the father of all your subjects”, just as he admonished him to imbibe the democratic virtues of dialogue and consultation in all his dealings.

Senator Okowa assured the community that having listened to their request especially on security, appropriate government agencies attention would be drawn in order to take necessary action.

The governor charged the people further to take advantage of the various government programmes particularly the Delta State micro credit scheme, in order to improve their production capacities.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President General, Obomkpa Progressive Union, Mr Charles Ogedi, appealed to His Excellency to prevail on the contractor handling the Obomkpa Road construction to mobilize to site and complete the remaining portion of the road now that the dry season has set in.

He added that the problem of security in the community was undermining the wellbeing of the people as kidnapping was now the order of the day thereby threatening the existence of the people and the neighbours within the axis.

In a related development the state government had earlier at Ubulu-Ubu also presented a staff of office to the Obi, His Royal Highness Obi Lawrence Onicha Kogwu and congratulated the Obi on his peaceful ascension to the throne, even as he wished him good health and long life.

The Governor however reminded the people that the 2019 general elections were around the corner, “Therefore having been in the forefront for the democratization of our country, this is the opportunity for us to determine the quality of our elected representatives at all elections”. He said

At Ubulu-Ubu, the community also highlighted catalogue of needs that are very critical amongst them are, access road, electricity, posting of teachers to the Ubulu-Ubu Secondary School.
