UTAGBA OGBE/Nigeria: In a remarkable display of commitment to education, the Monday Onyeme Foundation, spearheaded by the Deputy Governor of Delta State, has announced its selection of 390 outstanding undergraduates from various higher learning institutions across the state to benefit from its prestigious scholarship scheme.
The rigorous selection process took place at Utagba-Ogbe Grammar School in Utagba Ogbe, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State. This annual scholarship program drew 2,245 applicants primarily from Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, and Ukwuani Local Government Areas of Delta State. After careful evaluation, 981 students were shortlisted to sit for the examinations, with 390 ultimately emerging as successful scholarship recipients.
Addressing the triumphant students following the examination, Sir Onyeme, who also serves as the President of the Foundation, urged them to prioritize their studies as a means to conquer life’s challenges. He stressed the importance of academic excellence as a pathway to success and encouraged those who did not secure scholarships this year to strive for improvement in their academic performance for the next opportunity.
Sir Onyeme, who diligently supervised the selection process, also called for increased donations to bolster the scholarship scheme’s capacity, enabling it to support even more students in the following year.
“What we are doing is academic reawakening; it is for you to always take your academic activities seriously. When you go back to your school, pay serious attention to your academics, as your results will significantly impact your future. A first-class graduate proudly showcases their achievements, attracting assistance and opportunities. So, study hard and aspire to achieve excellent results,” Sir Onyeme emphasized.
In recognition of exceptional performance, two top candidates who scored an impressive 44 marks out of 50 will receive an additional reward of N150,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira), while the second-place recipient will receive an extra N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira), and the third-place candidate will be awarded N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira).
Fortune smiled upon one of the candidates, a pregnant woman who went into labor on her way to write the scholarship examination. Her remarkable determination earned her an automatic scholarship and an additional N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) for making it to the examination venue from the labor room.
Deputy Governor Onyeme confirmed that the successful scholarship recipients would receive their cheques during a ceremony scheduled for next Saturday at the same venue. The Monday Onyeme Foundation continues to serve as a beacon of hope and support for deserving students pursuing higher education in Delta State.
