WARRI/Nigeria: Amidst the Delta State Government’s warning for peace in the ongoing land dispute between Aladja/Ogbe-Ijaw Communities, a tragic incident has occurred, claiming the life of a 25-year-old motorbike rider. The victim, identified as Lawan from Zamfara State, was mercilessly killed and beheaded at his residence in Aladja on July 28, 2023.
According to Mr. Mustapha Suleman, the Chairman of Arewa Group in Aladja, Lawan met his untimely demise when armed youth stormed his home, prompting him and his roommates, also motorbike riders from the Arewa community, to attempt an escape. While two of the roommates managed to flee, Lawan was tragically caught and subjected to a brutal execution.
In the aftermath of the horrifying incident, the headless body was eventually recovered with the assistance of the military. Consequently, the Arewa Community members have decided to evacuate the area, seeking safety until the situation stabilizes in Aladja Community.
As of now, the perpetrators of the attack remain unidentified, leaving uncertainty whether the warring communities were involved or if opportunistic hoodlums exploited the land dispute to carry out this heinous act.
Despite efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO) for comment, they have been unavailable to respond to inquiries regarding this shocking incident. The community remains on edge as they await further developments and seek justice for the tragic loss of Lawan’s life.
