ASABA/Nigeria: A multi-giant telecommunication company, MTN, has been brought before the Delta State Police Command for a thorough investigation and potential prosecution over alleged involvement in cybercrime. The case centers around accusations that the Managing Director of MTN, Karl Toriola, colluded with certain company officers, including the head of the Human Resources Reward Unit, to intentionally and fraudulently delete crucial emails from Mr. Christopher Oyemike’s mailbox without proper authorization.
The allegations came to light when a lawyer, F.T. ERULI-EDE, ESQ., lodged a complaint, citing violations of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc) Act, 2015, particularly sections 8, 9, 13, 14, and 16 (2) (a) & (b). According to sources within the Police, the authorities intervened to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Officials from MTN appeared before the Delta State Police Headquarters on Wednesday, July 27, 2023, and their statements were taken. They were subsequently granted bail while the investigation remains ongoing. A police source, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed the existence of the report and stated that they intend to pursue the case in court once the investigation is concluded.
In response to the allegations, a staff member of F.T. Eruli-Ede, Esq., confirmed that they submitted a petition on behalf of Mr. Oyemike, seeking a proper investigation by the Police. As the case unfolds, all parties involved will be subject to the law, including corporate entities like MTN.
