WARRI/Nigeria: The National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for Warri Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Comrade Mulade Sheriff, has pledged to make ethnic unity, economic development and employment creation major priorities if elected.
Mulade made the pledge during the official flag-off of his consultation meetings with constituents and supporters ahead of the 2027 general election.
The environmental rights activist said his proposed representation would focus on strengthening relationships among the Ijaw, Itsekiri and Urhobo communities while pursuing greater federal attention to the economic and infrastructural needs of the constituency.
He said the constituency, despite its significant contribution to Nigeria’s economy, required stronger legislative advocacy to attract investment, infrastructure and employment opportunities.
According to him, his approach would be based on constructive engagement with the Federal Government, Delta State Government, local authorities, traditional institutions, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
Mulade identified the revival of the Warri and Koko seaports and the development of the Warri Industrial Park among the initiatives he would advocate if elected.
He also said he would pursue programmes in agriculture, fisheries and skills acquisition as part of efforts to create economic opportunities for youths and women across the constituency.
“Warri Federal Constituency deserves representation that can attract the attention and development required by our people. I will use constructive advocacy and engagement to ensure that the voice of the people is heard,” he said.
Mulade, who is the Ibe-Sorimowei of Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area, said the 2027 election should be determined by the capacity, competence and ability of candidates to deliver effective representation.
He appealed to the people of the constituency to move beyond ethnic and individual interests and build stronger relationships founded on trust and peaceful coexistence.
“We cannot continue to fight ourselves, deprive ourselves or destroy ourselves. Now is the time for us to rise above our individual and ethnic considerations and build a relationship based on trust, peace and unity across Warri Federal Constituency,” he said.
He said sustained peace among the major ethnic groups was essential to attracting development and creating an environment where businesses and other economic activities could thrive.
The NDP candidate further pledged to use his position in the National Assembly, if elected, to advocate policies and projects that would improve the economic prospects of the constituency and create opportunities for its growing youth population.
Mulade said his consultation exercise was intended to enable him to engage directly with constituents and better understand their expectations ahead of the election.
Recent online references also identify Mulade Sheriff as the NDP candidate for Warri Federal Constituency in the 2027 election, while other reports have highlighted his advocacy on development and issues affecting the Niger Delta.
