OSUBI/Nigeria: National Coordinator of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Comrade Chief Sheriff Mulade, has called on the people of Delta State to fully support Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration to ensure the successful implementation of development projects across the state.
Speaking in Warri shortly after his investiture as Patron of the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mulade emphasized the importance of peace in enabling the governor to fulfill his campaign promises. He urged all Deltans—women, youths, and elders alike—to foster a peaceful environment, thereby allowing the government to utilize the state’s resources effectively.
“The government of Delta State needs peace. It is crucial for everyone to support the Oborevwori-led administration so that the resources flowing into the state won’t be misappropriated or manipulated under the guise of insecurity,” Mulade stated.
He highlighted that crises often serve as a pretext for corruption, particularly through unaccounted security votes. He stressed the need for Deltans to work together to ensure that the substantial funds coming into the state, estimated at over N100 billion monthly from various sources including FAAC, 13 percent derivation, and internally generated revenue, are translated into tangible development and progress.
Mulade also encouraged the people not to shy away from holding the government accountable, emphasizing that questioning government actions is a civic duty, not an act of opposition. “When there is peace, there is development. Deltans must give peace a chance and support the government so we can hold it accountable,” he said.
He further charged journalists to maintain impartiality in their reporting, urging them to provide balanced and accurate coverage of issues. “Journalists are the window to the world. It’s important to hear all sides before publishing, ensuring that the stories are well-rounded and fair,” Mulade added.
