Mutu Dumps PDP for APC, Cites Internal Crisis and Constituents’ Backing

ABUJA/Nigeria: The member representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Mutu announced his defection in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, presented during plenary on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

According to the letter, Mutu said his decision was largely driven by what he described as persistent internal wrangling within the PDP at both the national and regional levels. He noted that the unresolved factional crisis in the party had made it difficult for him and his supporters to continue operating effectively under the PDP platform.

The lawmaker further revealed that his move to the ruling APC followed extensive consultations with political leaders, stakeholders, and constituents in Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency. He said the consensus among his people was that the APC currently offers a broader and more stable platform for delivering the much-needed dividends of democracy.

“After wide consultations with my constituents and political leaders in my federal constituency, we unanimously agreed that the APC would provide a better political platform to achieve our goals and aspirations,” the lawmaker stated in the letter. He stressed that his priority remains the development of Bomadi and Patani communities and aligning with a government that shares that vision.

Despite his departure from the PDP, Hon. Mutu expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity it gave him to serve over the years. He thanked PDP leaders and supporters for their support, pledging to continue working for the peace, progress, and development of the people he represents in the National Assembly.
