Rt (Hon) Ossai N Ossai (Ph.D): My motion on Eziokpor and Amai Crises

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.” –  Theodore Roosevelt

It’s most disheartening to read a colored and distorted version of my well-presented motion on Eziokpor and Amai communal crises.  As the elected representative of Ndokwa people, my duty is to ensure that representations are made for the benefit of my people

As an elected representative of the people criticizing my short-comings are not out of place, however, reading through Cyprian C. Odifili Diary of a legislative Maestro: a possible reaction to my motion on Eziokpor and Amai crises; it’s obvious that someone who possibly did nothing to address the flowering crises between Eziokpor and Amai may have presented another motion on the floor of Cyprian C. Odifili legislative chamber.

Below is my motion as presented on the floor of the National Assembly, under Matters of urgent public importance. I enjoin you, Sir, to read through this motion and point out a line or any content of this motion that displayed bias or any isotope of taking side with one of the communities or intended to misrepresent facts as crafted by one Cyprian C. Odifili.

This is the motion

MATTERS OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE:- ORDER viii, RULE 46

URGENT NEED FOR INTERVENTION IN THE RECURRING CRISIS BETWEEN AMAI AND EZIOKPOR COMMUNITIES OF DELTA STATE

The House:

Notes that the entire people of Amai and Eziokpor Communities of Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State are peace loving and have been living a communal life for decades

Also notes with sadness that since1920s, both Communities have been in recurrent and incessant claims and counter-claims of the encroachment of their respective farmlands which has resulted in reported incidence of indigenes being declared missing.

Further notes with grief that this communal crisis has resulted in the death of one Sunday Ogodu on 5th April 2017, a Primary School Headmaster by unknown persons

Disturbed that this recent development has degenerated into ambush and awesome killings of other innocent people within the Communities particularly farmers on their way to or from their respective farms

Worried that Automatic Kalashnikov (Ak 47) and other high profile guns, sophisticated and dangerous weapons were reported to been deployed and allegedly being used in the recurring communal crisis

Resolves To:

  1. Call on the Inspector General of Police to urgently intensify efforts at ensuring that peace is returned to both
  2. Also, call on the Inspector General of Police to investigate this communal crisis and the killings with a view to bringing the culprits to book
  3. Urge NEMA to provide support to families affected by the crises in both communities which is in line with section 6(j) of NEMA Act.
