ASABA/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has been honoured with the “Most Outstanding Speaker and Humanitarian Champion” award by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
The award was presented in his office at Asaba by NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladojo, alongside national and zonal executives of the association.
Oladojo said the recognition was in appreciation of the Speaker’s unwavering commitment to quality education and the welfare of students in Delta State and across Nigeria. He urged Guwor to sustain his support for education, noting that the honour was also to encourage him to do more. “This award is to recognise your resilience and unwavering support for students, as well as to strengthen our partnership in advancing education in Nigeria,” the NANS President said.
Responding, Speaker Guwor reaffirmed his dedication to promoting youth participation in leadership and governance. According to him, student leadership remains a vital training ground for future leaders. “I stand as a testimony that young people can provide effective leadership. As Speaker, I will continue to represent the voice and interest of Nigerian youths in the legislature,” he said.
He commended the NANS leadership for embarking on a statewide campus tour and advised them to avoid unhealthy politics, stressing the need to prioritise unity, growth, and empowerment programmes. “NANS has not been doing so well in recent times, but I hope the present leadership will resuscitate its vibrancy. I will continue to do my best to make the younger generation proud and to show that when given opportunities, the youth can excel,” Guwor added.
The ceremony climaxed with the formal presentation of the award plaque to the Speaker by the NANS President.
