ALIMOSHO/Nigeria: In an exclusive interview with reporters on Tuesday in Lagos, National Fly Weight Champion Akinade Akeem emphasized the transformative potential of boxing in altering the prospects of youths within the Alimosho Local Government Area.
Akeem, the esteemed founder of the ‘Youf8p ppitbox’ Academy, articulated plans to initiate a series of comprehensive training sessions and boxing tournaments targeted at empowering young individuals with proficient boxing skills. The primary objective is to equip them to compete effectively in various boxing arenas.
Under the hashtag #Youfitbox, Akeem highlighted the academy’s fundamental goal to curtail societal crime rates and violence. He stressed that the initiative aims to redirect the energies of idle youths away from criminal activities and substance abuse by providing them with constructive boxing training.
“Our mission is twofold: instilling discipline and fostering a culture of sports among the youth, thereby aiding in the discovery and nurturing of their talents,” Akeem expressed.
“Youfitbox endeavors to encourage young people to discard weapons in favor of boxing gloves, redirecting their energies toward boxing as a means of livelihood,” he continued.
Akeem astutely noted the abundance of unemployed youths across various local communities, cautioning that if their energies remain unguided, they could easily be swayed towards negative endeavors.
Reportedly commencing his boxing journey in Lagos back in March 2003, Akeem’s athletic prowess has been showcased on numerous occasions. He notably represented Lagos State in the EKO 2012 National Sports Festival and recently competed for Rivers State in the concluded National Sports Festival held in Delta State, participating in several prestigious national championships.
Akeem’s vision and commitment to utilizing boxing as a positive force for youth development underscore a potential avenue for societal transformation within Alimosho and beyond.
