National Human Rights Commission Condemns Anambra Church Shooting

ABUJA/Nigeria: The Ag. Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Mrs. Oti Ovrawah has condemned in strong terms, the killing of worshippers at Saint Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu Anambra State by unknown gunmen.

Mrs. Ovrawah who described the killing as unacceptable expressed shock saying there is no justification for such killings as the sanctity of life of every one living in Nigeria is important.

While calling on the security agents to step up their intelligence gathering techniques to always nip such killings in the bud, Mrs.

Ovrawah urged them to urgently fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

She said as the Commission continues to play its statutory role of promotion and protection of human rights in Nigeria, all relevant

institutions must ensure the security and welfare of all Nigerians which is the primary purpose of government. She called on security agencies to work with relevant stakeholders to prevent a further breakdown  of law and order, emphasizing that everyone living in

Nigeria has a right to life and should enjoy this right without fear and intimidation.

She commended the efforts of the Anambra State Government for its prompt decision to foot the medical expenses of the injured victims, as she condoled the families of the victims as well as the Anambra state
