Ndokwa Economic Summit: A Platform to Chart a New Course for Development, Says Organisers

ASABA/Nigeria: The forthcoming Ndokwa Economic Forum will be a platform for the people of Ndokwa to meet and chart a new course for the growth and development of the area.

Speaking at the meeting of the various committees setup to draw up a plan for the successful organisation of the event, the President of the Ndokwa Study Group, NSG, the body spearheading the summit, Dr Norris Ovili, bemoaned the under development of the area, most especially because of lack of road map that will guide the various policy makers that are involved in the development of the area.

Dr. Ovili noted that over the years, Ndokwa nation, which is blessed with abundant human and natural resources, has remained underdeveloped, and the people cannot feign ignorance of that.

“Ndokwa Nation is blessed with abundant human and natural resources yet, she has remained underdeveloped. We cannot feign ignorance of the near total absence of developmental projects, including tertiary institutions, social infrastructures and other vehicles of urbanisation.” He said.

Continuing, he said, “It’s our hope that the planned Economic Summit will accord us an enabling platform and a courageous atmosphere for Ndokwa people to meet and chart a new course for the growth and development of Ndokwa land.”

Dr Ovili, stated that the task before the committee is to examine the reports, and adopts them for presentation at the summit.

“It’s our wish and prayer,… that contribution would be made without fear or favour.”

Also speaking, the moderator of the session, Dr. Borniface Opia, of the Department of Agriculture, Delta State University, said that an economic summit for the Ndokwa Nation is overdue, and called on the various stakeholders in Ndokwaland, and corporate bodies to contribute towards a successful summit, which will set a road map for the future of Ndokwa Nation.

The highpoint of the pre-summit meeting was the presentation of committee reports, discussion and further discussion on how to have a successful summit.

Reports were received from Agriculture, Employment and Job Creation, Project Monitoring, Good Governance, Education and Awareness and Information Dissemination Committees.
