OLEH/Nigeria: Ndokwa National Youth Movement, NNYM, has, said the decision of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, to suspend its November 1 ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement existing templates on the Niger Delta will create room for further neglect of the core issues affecting the region.
Chief Edwin Clark of PANDEF and Acting President Osinbajo It said the calling off of the ultimatum by the Convener, Chief Edwin Clark, and other leaders of the forum at their recent meeting with the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, “only ended up making a mockery of our struggle for a better Niger Delta.”
Lamenting that youths of the region were not consulted before the ultimatum was issued, the group, in a statement by its National Secretary, Presley Idi, said: “We have no problem with them calling it off, but our major concern is instead of achieving results with it, they have ended up portraying us as a people that bark without bite.
“We really would want to ask the leadership of PANDEF if the root cause of the agitations has been addressed before their ultimatum was called off.
The answer certainly will be ‘no’. Now tell us, how can we get lasting peace when there is no resource control?
“Take it or leave it, we have said it that until the Federal Government stops talking and starts acting, no matter the numbers of meetings called, nothing tangible will be achieved as regards securing a pact that will lead to lasting peace in the region.
“All their meetings, conferences and dialogue sessions so far have proved to be nothing but mere political jamboree.”
