ASHAKA/Nigeria: In a landmark move toward unity and accelerated development, the Ndosimili Development Union (NDU) and the Ndosimili Development Association (NDA) have officially merged to form a single apex socio-cultural and developmental body, now known as the Ndosimili Development Union (NDU).

The historic merger, which followed extensive consultations with stakeholders, marks the beginning of a new era of cohesion and collaboration among the people of Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State. According to a joint statement signed by Dr. Titus Obiorah, Chairman of the former NDA, and Dr. Sunday Chukwudi, Co-Chair Emeritus of the NELGA Summit 2020 and President of the legacy NDU, the unification represents the collective aspiration of the Ndosimili people for a stronger and more coordinated platform to drive development.

“Our people have long yearned for one united sociocultural apex body. This merger allows us to harmonize our efforts, eliminate duplication, and speak with one voice in pursuit of Ndosimili’s development goals,” the statement read.

The merger brings together the long-standing NDU, known for championing cultural preservation and grassroots development, and the NDA, established to strengthen coordination and advocacy within the region. The unified body will now serve as the central voice of Ndokwa East, promoting unity, cultural heritage, and sustainable development.

A new leadership council has been constituted to steer the affairs of the reinvigorated NDU, featuring distinguished professionals and community leaders drawn from both legacy bodies. The new executive council includes: Engr. Ike Onyenokwe as President General; Mr. Chris Uzoalu, Vice President; Dr. Oke Michael Aziakpono, Secretary General; Professor Adaobi Ugbomeh, Treasurer; Mrs. Gloria Chukwujekwe, Financial Secretary; Mr. Austin Anochie, Assistant Secretary; Chief Sony Neme, Public Relations Officer; and Barristers Malachy Ugwummadu and Robert Anyibama as Legal Advisers.

The new NDU leadership pledged to uphold transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability in steering the affairs of the union, while working to attract meaningful development projects and foster harmony among all Ndosimili communities. The council also extended an open invitation to traditional rulers, Presidents-General of communities, political leaders, youth and women groups, and non-governmental organizations to rally behind the unified body.

“This merger is not just symbolic; it is strategic. Together, we can transform our communities, attract investment, and create opportunities for future generations,” the leaders affirmed.

The Union disclosed that details of its inaugural programmes and development initiatives would be unveiled in the coming weeks. As the new Ndosimili Development Union takes shape, it aims to strengthen unity, promote good governance, and serve as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation across Ndokwa East.
