WARRI/Nigeria: The Niger Delta Youth Council of Nigeria (NDYCN) has joined other well-meaning Nigerians to condemn the delay of President Muhammadu Buhari over the inauguration of the substantive Board and management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The group who lamented over the delay of the inauguration of the NDDC board, said the only obstacle holding the inauguration of the board has been addressed following the submission of the report by the forensic audit committee.
In a statement signed and made available to journalists in Warri by Comrade Omoniyi Freedom, Chairman Niger Delta Youth Council of Nigeria Delta State Chapter, he urged President Buhari to inaugurate the NDDC Governing Board in accordance with the law, to serve as a vehicle that will drive development in the Niger Delta region.
According to Omoniyi, the inauguration of the board would be in the common interests of Nigerians.
The chairman of the delta state chapter of the NDYCN, said non-inauguration of the board was hindering development in the region, adding that inaugurating the already screened and confirmed nominees would enable them to swing into action immediately.
“It would be recalled that the substantive Board was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari in October 2019 led by Mr Pius Odubu as Chairman and Chief Bernard Okumagba as Managing Director, Screened by the Senate shortly after their nomination.
“The inauguration of the substantive Board will no doubt open a new vista in President Buhari’s drive to take infrastructural development to every part of the Niger Delta and the country in general.
“The reason we are calling for the inauguration of the substantive NDDC Board without delay is because its composition reflects the wishes of the people of the region,” Omoniyi reiterated.
