ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Munir Nwoko has applauded President Bola Tinubu for officially flagging off the construction of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge linking Delta and Anambra States, as well as the reconstruction of the Asaba-Benin Expressway.
In a letter addressed to the president and made available to journalists on Sunday, the Delta North senator described the projects as critical to economic integration, national cohesion, and infrastructural renewal. “These projects are of immense strategic importance, not only for the South-South and South-East regions but for Nigeria as a whole,” Nwoko stated.
He highlighted the dilapidated state of the Asaba-Benin Expressway and the hardship it has caused commuters and businesses, noting that he had persistently engaged the Federal Ministry of Works to prioritize its rehabilitation. “As a senator representing Delta North, I formally wrote to the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. (Engr.) David Nweze Umahi, advocating for immediate remedial measures. It is gratifying to see that these efforts, backed by your leadership’s responsiveness, have resulted in tangible progress,” he said.
Nwoko, a member of the Senate Committee on Works, emphasized the legislative push for nationwide road rehabilitation, adding that the committee is committed to ensuring that all federal roads are reconstructed to boost economic activities and improve transportation safety. “In light of the nation’s current fiscal constraints, we feel deeply grateful that our region is among the first to receive this much-needed intervention,” he added.
He also commended the Minister of Works for his commitment to quality infrastructure delivery, stating that the flag-off of these projects will significantly enhance connectivity between Delta, Anambra, Edo, and beyond. “The people of Delta North and the entire region remain deeply grateful. I look forward to continued collaboration with your administration in advancing initiatives that will uplift our people and drive sustainable development,” Nwoko concluded.
“Once again, I extend my deepest gratitude, Your Excellency, for your leadership and dedication to national progress,” he concluded.
