IDUMUJE-UGBOKO/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has provided free medical services to over 600 people across selected communities in the area.
The medical outreach, held at two locations—Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government Area and Umuagu Quarters in Asaba, Oshimili South—drew beneficiaries from neighboring communities. Residents received free eye and dental check-ups, HIV and tuberculosis screenings, and some were given medication, while others were scheduled for surgeries.
Senator Nwoko, who visited the outreach centers alongside his wife, Regina Daniels, emphasized the need for continuous healthcare services in rural areas. “Healthcare should be accessible to every community. My aim is for this outreach to be a continuous initiative, not just a seasonal one,” he stated. “Doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel must be within reach of everyone, whether at the local, state, or federal level. Facilities like the health center in Idumuje-Ugboko, which was built two years ago, should be replicated in every community. Nothing is more important than meeting the healthcare needs of both rural and urban dwellers.”
Dr. Ezinne Olisekwu, the medical coordinator of the outreach, noted that hypertension, diabetes, and eye problems were prevalent health issues in the communities. She added that many beneficiaries had been living with these conditions for years without seeking proper medical care. Dr. Arocha Chukwudi urged citizens to make use of health facilities regularly for their own well-being.
Medical professionals such as dentist Ogume Gloria and optometrist Pat Abor were on hand to provide services to those in need. Mr. Icheme Samuel from the Centre for Management Development, who supervised the project, praised Senator Nwoko’s initiative, stating that it has greatly benefited the people, noting, “Health is wealth.”
Beneficiaries, including Professor George Omezi, Achi Adeye, Dorcas Nwulu, and Tina Nwaemeke, expressed their gratitude to the senator for the life-changing support.
The medical outreach, which began in November last year with 500 beneficiaries, has now provided care to over 1,000 people across selected communities in Delta North’s three federal constituencies.
