ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has announced the facilitation of over ₦30 billion worth of development projects, aimed at enhancing critical infrastructure and agricultural productivity across Delta North and adjoining communities.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday evening, Senator Nwoko disclosed that the projects are being executed under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with funding from special Federal Government intervention programmes.

“These projects, funded through Mr. President’s special intervention funds, will address critical infrastructure needs and significantly boost agricultural productivity across the region,” Nwoko said.

He highlighted ongoing developments under the Benin-Owena River Basin Authority, including the construction of water treatment plants and reticulation systems at the already completed Ogwashi-Uku Dam in Aniocha South Local Government Area. The Senator also pointed to the Idumuje Dam project in Aniocha North, where over ₦7.5 billion has been committed for improved water management and irrigation infrastructure.

“We’re prioritizing irrigation systems to support year-round farming,” he explained. “This includes providing quality seedlings, fertilizers, and modern farming equipment to our local farmers. These efforts will directly enhance food security and economic empowerment.”

Senator Nwoko emphasized that the projects are a direct outcome of his close collaboration with President Tinubu and key federal agencies, noting that the interventions reflect his determination to deliver on campaign promises.

“These efforts are not only in fulfillment of my campaign promises but also a reflection of our shared vision for a more prosperous Delta State,” he stated.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Senator’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Michael Nwoko, led a technical team on an inspection tour of the Idumuje Dam site. Addressing the media after the visit, Dr. Nwoko revealed that the dam’s feasibility studies had already been captured in the national budget, and that design and construction phases would soon commence.

“The dam will feature comprehensive components including a water treatment facility, domestic distribution networks, and hydroelectric infrastructure to ensure steady and safe water supply for Delta North communities,” Dr. Nwoko said.

He further recalled Senator Nwoko’s previous role in attracting the Ogwashi-Uku Dam during his time in the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003. With both Ogwashi-Uku and Idumuje Dams now progressing, he noted, the region’s protracted water distribution challenges may soon be resolved.

“These projects are a clear demonstration of Senator Nwoko’s commitment to people-oriented development and the fulfillment of his promises to the people of Delta North,” Dr. Nwoko added.
