Neglect of Key Delta Road Sparks Appeal from DELSU Lecturer to Governor Oborevwori …Highlighs Its Impact on Agriculture, Education, and Security

EKPAN/Nigeria: A lecturer at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Comrade Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, has made a passionate appeal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging him to take over the reconstruction of the Sapele-Eku-Abraka-Obiaruku-Abavo-Agbor 70-kilometer road. The road, which cuts through eight local government areas, has been in a state of disrepair for years, causing untold hardship to its users.

Dr. Bebenimibo, who is also a human rights activist and a former board member of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), decried the Federal Government’s neglect of the road in an open letter. He implored Governor Oborevwori to seek President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval to rehabilitate the road, noting that its deplorable condition is a major contributor to the high cost of agricultural products, transportation challenges, and prevailing insecurity in Delta State.

In his letter, Dr. Bebenimibo emphasized the critical importance of the road to Delta State residents, including students and staff of Delta State University, Abraka, and the University of Agbor. He urged the governor to follow the examples set by other state leaders, such as Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and former Rivers State Governor Chief Nyesom Wike, who have undertaken similar projects on federal roads to improve their states’ infrastructure.

Dr. Bebenimibo concluded his appeal by reminding Governor Oborevwori of his campaign promises to be a “man of the people,” urging him to demonstrate his commitment to the welfare of Deltans by addressing this urgent issue.
