New Minimum Wage: Delta Workers Laud Okowa

WARRI/Nigeria: Delta State civil servant and other state workers in Warri South Local Government Area was recently in a joyous mood over the payment of the N30,000 minimum wage fulfiled as promised by the Delta State Government.

It will be recalled that the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa was among the first governors in Nigeria to agree to the implementation and commence payment of the new minimum wage.

A cross – section of workers, who spoke with our correspondence in Warri, said that they were impressed with the governor’s unflinching commitment to workers’ welfare.

A staff of the Directorate of Local Government Affairs Zonal Office, Mrs Omamuli Enerun Martins, said that she got a credit alert yesterday in the evening and observed the increment in her salary which confirmed the payment of the new minimum wage and arrears.

She said “The Governor has done well and he is a man of his word.”

Mr Okiemute Aluya of Ministry  of Education Field Office, Warri expressed appreciation to Governor Okowa for being prompt in the payment, stressing that he was not  surprised at it  because  he knew the governor  was a man of Integrity, calling him “Talk and do” Governor.

Local government workers however said that they were hopeful the new minimum wage would be implemented in their salary.
