NGO Harps On Import Of Vitamin A, Donates Fertilizers To Widows

AGBOR/Nigeria: The Nutrition Sensitive Agricultural Program (NSAP), a non governmental organization, has held a sensitization campaign at Owa-Alizomor in Ika North East Local Government Area.

The founder of NSAP, Mrs Judith Okolo, said that the objective the organization was to sensitize women on the benefits of Vitamin A and fortified Potato Seed Leaf to the body system, if planted and properly taken care of.

“NSAPI is poised to ensure food security through commitment and action. We are working in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) targeting poor households and widows for empowerment and campaigning against gender inequalities.

“We also provide Nutrition education that will enable poor households to use their little resources to improve family members nutrition, especially the women and Youths” she added.

Continuing, she explained that NSAPI was doing her best to empower rural households like they did in Owa-Alizomor community by giving them the Potato Seed Leaf to plant in their respective farms or gardens.

She noted that the Potato was produced by the International Center for Potato Production and that it was a variety of nutritious potato that help to improve vitamin A, saying that vitamin A deficiency was high across the African continent.

Mrs. Okolo revealed she got the motivation to empower the women in her community and beyond because of her love for them and zeal to see the betterment of her people through the international nutritional food.

In his remarks, a lecturer at the College of Education, Agbor, Mr Jude Igborgbor, harped on agricultural and nutritional sustainability in the area and recommended partnership with the local communities, stressing that the objective of the body could only be achieved by reaching out to the women and youths in such communities.

The sensitization program also witnessed the donation of bags of fertilizers to the widows.
