A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) known as the Gospel Without Words International has  launched  an educational Foundation and Science Competition in honour of Sir H.O. Okwuokenye and Lady G.N. Okwuokenye

According to statement from Dr. Henry Chikaobi Okwuokwenye on behalf of the Okwuokwenye family,   he stated that the  Gospel Without Words International with the website:  www.gospelwithoutwords.org, is   a respected non-government organization, which established a foundation aimed at  immortalizing the legacy of the late Sir H.O. Okwuokenye and Lady G.N. Okwuokenye.

He said that the initiative was to honour the  lifelong commitment of their parents towards advancing education, particularly in the sciences, within their community.

Dr. Okwuokenye emphasized that their parents love for education, especially sciences  had inspired the foundation’s inaugural Science Competition, targeting Junior Secondary School 2 (JSS 2) students.

Dr. Henry Okwuokwenye explained that the aim of establishing the Foundation was to spark interest in science subjects at a pivotal stage in students’ academic journeys, recognizing the transformative impact that education and community support can have on individual lives and society at large.

He said that the winners of the competition would receive financial awards intended to cover registration for both Junior and Senior WAEC examinations as well as subsequent school fees throughout secondary education.

While saying that the recepients would be required to provide account details for transparency and accountability, he  noted that the  foundation also envisions future support for outstanding students pursuing university education, contingent on sustained academic excellence and proper record-keeping.

“We give not because we have abundance, but because we understand the profound relief and direction that support can provide. Education is the lamp that lights the path to destiny.”

The Gospel Without Words International, however,  called  upon community members to join in supporting one another, recognizing that collective efforts in education, health, security, and good governance are essential to overcoming poverty and illiteracy and subsequently improved quality of life.

He appreciated the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the press for their invaluable support in making the  event possible.

It could be recalled that Sir H.O. Okwuokenye  passed away in 2012, and Lady G.N. Okwuokenye, who  transitioned in March 2025, were renowned for their selfless service as educators.

Also , Sir   H. O , Okwuokenye  served as a primary school teacher and headmaster for many years, with unwavering support from his wife. Together, they nurtured generations of students, often providing financial assistance, school supplies, and personal guidance to those in need long before their own children attended school.

Meanwhile, some of the candidates who made it to the final level of the competition including  Marvelous Onwuka, Gloria Stanley ,  Monday Great ,Samson Chukum and Goodluck Okwuchi as well as Precious Isioma lauded the children of Sir and lady Okwuokwenye for the initiative.

It is believed that from the final  stage of the partakers the best would be chosen.
