NGO Marks Co-working Day, Emphasizes Women’s Active Participation in Politics

ASABA/Nigeria: A Non-governmental Organization Standup for Women Society, SWS has called for women’s inclusiveness in politics and active participation in the forthcoming general election.

The State Chairperson of the body Mrs Stalla Macaulay, made the appeal in Asaba, at an event to commemorate the 2022 World Co-working Day in Delta State

The occasion was celebrated with the theme: The Electoral Process in Nigeria – Financial Inducements and the 2023 Election.

The Chairperson Mrs Stalls Macaulay, explained the group had convened the summit in line with Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Co-working Day celebration, to brainstorm on measures at improving women participation in politics.

“What we are discussing revolves around INEC and their preparedness. We want to interrogate the processes and ensure we have what we desire.”

Also, the Program Officer, Elona Foundation, Mr  Leslie Obiebi, spoke on the partnership with the women group focused on highlighting current and emerging problems in the polity.

“The purpose is for coworkers to celebrate themselves in order to work out possible ways for the 2023 Elections to be credible.”

Meanwhile, Delta State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Pastor Monday Udoh-Tom, represented by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity Mr Bukola Ojeme, mentioned efforts  at ensuring the credibility of the 2023 polls.

“INEC Result Viewing Portal that enables citizens to monitor results as they are uploaded. B-VAS has also come to address issues of mistrust.”

Meanwhile, The Guest Speaker Ambassador OgagaOghene Ogheneyole, recommended women to participate in politics to effect the changes they seek.

“You must be a member of an organization to make a reform. So if you are not participating in politics you don’t have the right to criticize them.”

Representatives of women groups, identified the menace of vote buying in elections as the most dangerous threat to the democratic process.
