NGO Urges Students On Realistic Goals, Good Values

UGHELLI/Nigeria: Students of Basic and Secondary Schools has been advised to set achievable goals for themselves, shun get rich quick syndrome and as well adhere to values that will transform them.

The conveners of the seminar Mr. Foster Akpore, and Mr. Miracle Onyeukwu under the auspices of Alliance for Leadership, Equity and Good Governance (ALEGG) a nongovernmental organisation (NGO), gave this advise, when they held a five-day seminar with the different secondary school students in Orogun Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The seminar had as it’s theme “Success Optimization Summit (SOS)” a delivery area under the “Strengthening Paths for Academic Advancement and Community Engagement (SPACE) Project”, was aimed at optimizing students for success, by instilling the right mindset and values reorientation.

The five-day program, had about 900 students in attendance, with representatives from the different clans that make up the nine kingdoms in Orogun, was held in collaboration with Orogun progressive Union, which had sessions on dream and goal setting, principles of success, life skill, and achiever’s spotlight.

According to Mr Onyeukwu, ” the journey to impact and help delta youths to discover their purpose between now and the next five years has begun, but we need the support of all to achieve this he stated”

In his remark, the President General of Orogun Kingdom, Chief   Benson Ndakara, commended ALEGG NGO, for their humanitarian service, and urged the students to adhere to the advice, from the training, shun violence, be focused and enjoined them to have a definite goal, that will help them lead a better life.

Barrister Nadakara, stated that “there is a distinct gap in teacher and student ratio, that requires urgent intervention” and called on the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) to send teachers to the nine secondary schools in the kingdom, especially, teachers of the compulsory subjects.

In his good will message, the Chief Inspector of Education, Dr John Ojogho, commended ALEGG NGO, for the mindset values reorientation enlightenment, program taken to the grass root as he expressed willingness to go into partnership, for more secondary schools to benefit.

Others who spoke were the President of Obodeti-Orogun Chief Solomon Awero, The Principal of Emonu Comprehensive High School, Mrs Grace Onojeje, lauded ALEGG, for organising the timely seminar and urged students to redefine their parts positively, have patience for virtue of delayed gratification.

The high point of the seminar was the promise made by the representatives of Aragba Development Union and the Principal of Aragaba Secondary School, to reopen and make the existing library functional and accessible to the students.
