OBIARUKU/Nigeria: The rescheduled 2019 General Elections started today across the country with the presidential and National Assembly elections; our reporters from the three local governments of Ndokwa nation, reported early arrival of voting materials to the centers, but however hiccups were experienced in most of the units, due to malfunctioning card readers.
In Ukwuani local government area, the voters came out in their numbers to exercise their franchise, in all the pulling units in Obiaruku, the Local Government Headquarters, there were long queues of voters armed with the PVCs to vote for their choice candidates. The voters were generally peaceful as accreditation and voting were being done simultaneously as directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Across, the local government headquarters, there were no cases of failed Card Reader machine in any of the units and this increased the confidence of most voters in the process.
In all the pulling units in Obiaruku, the party agents, security men, independent observers and journalists conducted themselves in the manners that the election umpires wanted them to.
Voting ended in most of the pulling units at about 2:42pm when all the voters have finished voting and were waiting for their votes to be counted.
At Umutu, ward 1, unit 4, the polling centre of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, and that of the factional candidate of the App Progressive Congress, APC, Mr. David Ochonogor, voting material arrived as early as 7.30am, but the centre experienced card reader failures, this was noticed in almost all the units in the ward.
Similar story was reported in Owa Abbi, ward 4, unit 12, voting could not start here not until 2pm. At Eziokpor, all the 6 units of Ward 6, experienced same issue of card reader failure.
However, the voters commended the peaceful atmosphere during the voting.
At Ndokwa west, the election there was reported peaceful, and orderly, with same issues of card reader failures in some of the units. Those who spoke to the press are the House of Assembly candidate for the All Progressive Congress, APC, Mr. Adoh Ozegbe, Chief Lucky Efe, and the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development commission, DESOPADEC, Mr. Flenjo Opute. All experienced satisfaction for the peaceful conduct of the election in the area.
From Ndokwa East, similar peaceful atmosphere was experienced, as the people expressed confidence that the outcome of the election will be reflect the minds of the Nigerians.
