Oghara: The people of Ogharefe Community, headquarters of Ethiope West Local government area of Delta State were taken aback recently when men and officers of the Nigeria Navy logistics Command Oghara, came out en-mass to clear the drainages of dirt and weeds to allow for easy flow of water and to prevent Oghara from flooding during the 2017 rainy season.
Flag officer commanding Logistics Command Oghara, Delta State Rear Admiral Begroy Ibe-Enwo who addressed journalists while the exercise lasted, said the exercise by the Navy was in line with their corporate responsibility with their host community.
He affirmed that their activities which they tagged as “Quick Impact Project” is aimed at making the roads leading to the command headquarters and other roads which were very bad over the years easily accessible , hence they also embarked on patching the failed portions and other activities such as fumigation to make the environment worthwhile for human inhibition.
The Commanding Officer, added that with the limited resources at their disposal they are equally embarking on other life improvement activities in the area which include, the Construction of bore holes in remote primary schools for the children of the less privilege for them to feel their presence, pointing out that they have also concluded arrangement to offer Basic Medical Services to the people who are suffering from ailments such as diabetics, high blood pressure, eye defects etc while major cases would be referred to specialists hospitals .
Rear Admiral Ibe-Enwo revealed that the Navy has also added the Nigerian Navy primary School Ogharefe to their list of beneficiaries where they would put all failed infrastructures in place including the procurement of buses for the civilian children living outside the
Barracks just as he commended the effort of the officers for doing a good job in the community outside their official assignment including the residents and government officials from the Council Secretariat who also participated in the voluntary exercise.
Residents who spoke, are Mr. Ofuafo Ochuko and Mr. Marvis Okiemute, who commended the Navy for the wonderful feat, adding that the community over the years has enjoyed a robust and cordial relationship with the Navy that has provided them with free security.
According to Mr. Marvis Okiemute, the Navy has indeed improved a lot on the security network in Oghara Community, because the issue of kidnapping and other related crimes has reduced significantly with their presence here and as you can see they do not molest our people at all because they are very friendly with us here.
