UGHELLI/Nigeria: The Chairman of the Nigerian Police Committee of inquiry on the level damage on police facilities and casualties, CP Abutu Yaro says the Nigerian Police force will never turn its back on her officers.
Mr. Abutu Yaro made the assertion at Uweifo Orthopaedic and Nursing Home, Ewuru in Ika South Local Government Area when his committee visited a police officer, Patrick Okwuone, who was allegedly shot on the leg by some hoodlums during the ENDSARS protest at Ughelli.
He said that the committee embarked on the visits on the instruction of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Adamu Mohammed to assess the level of damage on police facilities and casualties in 17 states during the ENDSARS protest.
Continuing, C P Yaro stressed that the leadership of the Nigerian Police took seriously that welfare of every police officer, adding that the force would never turn its back on officers in times of challenge.
Addressing the wounded officer, My Yaro said: “We are very sorry for your condition. Be rest assured that we will not abandon you and your family. We will stand by you in this ordeal.”
While asking the wounded officer whether he was satisfied with the treatment in the orthopaedic home, he urged the police doctor to continue to examine the situation and give the necessary advice when needed.
Mr Yaro also commiserated with the family of the wounded officer who was said to have lost his 84 years father who was alleged to have died of shock after hearing the news that his son was attacked and shot by hoodlums.
A prayer session was conducted for Mr Patrick Okwuone for speedy healing and recovery.
The Chairman of the Committee also lead his team to assess the degrees of damage done by the protesters at the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) Agbor-Obi, Ika South Local Government Area and The Ugbaja Police Out-Post in Ika North East Local Government Area.
They were also at the grave side of late DIG, Donald Michael Ugbaja to pay their respect and also made some prayers.
