ABUJA/Nigeria: The Nigeria/South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group of the House of Representatives held a strategic meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of South Korea to Nigeria, His Excellency Pankyu Kim.
The meeting, chaired by Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria/South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, focused on deepening the relationship between the two nations through enhanced cooperation in key sectors.
Welcoming Ambassador Kim, Hon. Ezechi highlighted the committee’s mandate as set by the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas PhD, and reiterated the group’s commitment to fostering collaboration and strengthening ties between Nigeria and South Korea. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in areas of mutual interest and benefit, assuring the Ambassador of the committee’s support in advancing the bilateral relationship.

Hon. Paul Ekpo, a member of the committee, underscored the need for deepened collaboration in technology, agriculture, and youth empowerment. He praised the ongoing efforts of South Korea through the Nigeria/South Korea Chamber of Commerce and encouraged the continuation and expansion of business engagements between the two countries.
Echoing these sentiments, Hon. Engr. Fom Dalyop called for increased technology transfer initiatives, highlighting Nigeria’s position as the largest market in Africa. He noted the significant opportunities this presents for both nations and stressed the importance of youth empowerment initiatives, which could yield benefits for both countries.
Hon. Dr. Midala Usman Balami added to the discussion by advocating for health interventions, agricultural advancements, and the development of skills for economically disadvantaged youth in Nigeria. He urged the Ambassador to identify specific areas where South Korea’s operations in Nigeria might require legislative support from the National Assembly. Furthermore, he encouraged the Ambassador to propose new ideas and areas for potential bilateral collaboration.
In response, Ambassador Pankyu Kim expressed his pleasure in meeting the members of the Nigeria/South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group and highlighted the strong interest of Korean industries in Nigeria.
He announced the formation of a South Korean/Nigeria Parliamentary Group within the South Korean parliament, aimed at fostering closer ties between the parliaments of both nations. Ambassador Kim assured the committee of South Korea’s continued support and cooperation with Nigeria.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to further strengthen the bilateral relationship, focusing on key areas such as technology transfer, youth empowerment, health interventions, and agricultural development.
This collaborative effort reflects the dedication of the 10th House of Representatives, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas PhD, to forge meaningful partnerships that positively impact the lives of all Nigerians.
