Nigeria@64: Delta Speaker Urges Deltans to Take Pride in State’s Role in National Growth

ASABA/Nigeria: As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Anniversary, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has called on Deltans to take pride in the state’s significant contributions to the nation’s development.

In a goodwill message to his Warri South West Constituents, the people of Delta, and Nigerians at large, the Speaker highlighted the state’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s progress over the past 64 years. He noted that Delta, famously known as ‘The Big Heart,’ has remained a vital player in the country’s growth.

Rt Hon Guwor’s message, conveyed through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nkem Nwaeke, encouraged Deltans and all Nigerians not to lose faith in the unity and potential of the nation. He emphasised that despite challenges, Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary serves as a reminder of the resilience, unity, and determination of its people.

“As we reflect on our journey, let’s honour the sacrifices of our founding fathers and the struggles of our past. We have come a long way, but our collective efforts will shape a brighter future,” Guwor remarked.

He urged Nigerians to continue striving for greatness, celebrating the nation’s diversity, and demonstrating greater commitment to promoting peace, justice, and equality across the land.

In his message, Rt Hon Guwor, who also serves as National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, expressed optimism about Delta’s future. He reaffirmed the state’s role as a leader, noting that Delta contributes approximately 30% of Nigeria’s oil and gas production—a key driver of the nation’s economy.

While acknowledging the significant progress made, the Speaker also recognised that more remains to be achieved. He called for continued collective effort to ensure a prosperous, peaceful, and vibrant Delta State.

On behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly and the people of Warri South West Constituency, Rt Hon Guwor pledged unwavering commitment to peace, unity, good governance, and the prosperity of the state. He also expressed gratitude to Deltans for their steadfast support of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

“As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let’s also reflect on our shared aspirations and work towards creating a better future for ourselves, our children, our communities, and our beloved Delta State,” the Speaker concluded.
