ASABA/Nigeria: The Nigerian Baptist Convention has praised Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his impressive achievements in infrastructural and human capital development since taking office on May 29th, 2023.
The commendation was made by Dr. Soye Asawo, National President of the Men’s Missionary Union (MMU) of the Nigeria Baptist Convention, during a courtesy visit to Governor Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba. Dr. Asawo lauded the governor’s unwavering commitment to Christian faith despite the pressures of public office and recognized the significant progress made in Delta State under his leadership.
“We identify with you and commend your developmental strides, particularly in road infrastructure, with projects like the Warri and Effurun flyovers, including the crucial PTI Junction flyover by a reputable construction company. These efforts benefit not only the citizens and residents of Delta State but also the millions of Nigerians who travel through the area annually,” Dr. Asawo stated.
He also highlighted the ongoing projects in education, healthcare, and human capacity development, acknowledging their importance in the state’s progress.
Dr. Asawo further noted that this year’s Baptist Convention, themed “Wonders without Numbers” (Job 9:10), is being held in Asaba, Delta State, due to its peaceful environment, excellent transportation network, and world-class facilities. He emphasized that Delta last hosted the Convention in 2011 in Sapele and that Asaba was chosen for its serene atmosphere, accessibility, and hospitality.
Quoting from the book of Esther, Dr. Asawo reminded the governor of his responsibility to ensure the welfare of citizens, particularly during these challenging times. “Our simple but profound charge to Your Excellency is to remember that Nigerians are suffering, and God has placed you in leadership at this time to provide solutions to their needs,” he said.
In response, Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude to the MMU President for selecting Asaba as the venue for the 44th Convention, reaffirming Delta’s reputation as a peaceful and prayerful state. He emphasized the state’s commitment to hosting an annual Praise and Prayer Day every May 29th as a mark of dedication to God and credited this tradition for the state’s continued peace.
“We are doing our best in terms of infrastructure and human capital development. Recently, we empowered 5,500 people through the MORE grant, and we have provided palliatives to alleviate the challenges faced by our citizens. We will continue to do more to ensure peace and progress in Delta State,” the governor assured.
Governor Oborevwori also requested continued prayers for the state, emphasizing that spiritual support is crucial for success. He welcomed the Baptist Convention to Delta State, inviting attendees to experience the state’s progress and hospitality firsthand.
