Idumuje-Ugboko: Former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Ned Nwoko has called on Nigerians to invest in mechanized farming to boost the nation’s gross domestic products.
Speaking in his country home at Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North local government area of Delta State, Hon. Nwoko who represented Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency, said, mechanized farming would give a boost to food security in the country and also, encourage industrialization.
“We are unique in so many ways, from local government to local government, and we can focus on establishing mechanized farms,” he said, adding, “such mechanized farms should have small scale industries, established to buy at guarantee prices from farmers.”
He reiterated, “the factories are for processing and packaging, and the next stage is marketing and export, it is very simple because, we understand farming, we also know that if the government means well, they can guarantee the farmers to sell at set prices.”
Hon. Nwoko who also contested to be the governor of Delta State stated that one of the ways to boost the nation’s economy was to encourage local production which could be exported to other countries, noting that there are many areas Nigeria has comparative advantage in terms of food production.
The former law maker who is working to get accreditation for the first Sports University in the country, also took time to talk about 25 years of the creation of Delta State, emphasized, that selfless, pragmatic leadership was necessary to reposition the state to take the centre stage among most developed states in the country.
“We need pragmatic leadership, well meaning individuals who can be selfless, people who have standards to manage the affairs of a Delta State,” he said, emphasizing, “what we need is selfless leaders with exposures and ready to provide basic amenities and everybody will be happy.”
